One of the most often asked questions that I get is
how to send attachments in email. More
specifically how do I send pictures in email especially
pictures that aren't so big that who ever I send them
to can see them.
There are many ways to do this and several pieces
of free software to help. First, the reason the
pictures are so big is that you took them using your
new camera and set it to the highest mega pixel
setting that it had. Thad's fine if you are
printing them but, they are to big to send in email.
pixels are the little dots that make up the picture,
the more dots the bigger the picture. Pretty
simple concept but how to make them smaller.
You could use a program like Photoshop to make the
image smaller but the easiest way is by using Google's
FREE Picassa software it is free and it
organizes all the pictures on your PC so that they can
be easily found, printed or emailed. If you
don't have picassa then go to google's web site http://picasa.google.com/
and download the latest version, again it's free.
Now open Picassa and it will start to find all of
the pictures that you have on your PC don't worry it's
not making copies it's just putting the locations and
names in a database so that they are easier to
manage. The first thing to do is go to the top
menu and tools/options

Make sure the setting's are the
same as the dialog above EXCEPT the email
selection. You may have gmail and in that case
it's fine to leave this setting the same but the
program may have other options that are on your
specific PC. Just check the one you want to use
or leave it at let me choose each time I send
pictures.
The Output options are the ones
that are important here. I like 800 pixels
because they send good at this size and are big enough
for the user to see them. OK that's all of the
set up needed for now press apply and then OK.
now select a couple pictures that
you want to send by holding down the control key and
with the mouse click on several pictures. The
pictures should remain high lighted then release the
control button and press the [email] button at the
bottom of the page.
Now it will act like most other
email programs and you can enter the email addresses
that you want to send to and typ over the picassa
message and press send!
You have now sent an email with
pictures that anyone can see.
